1st Sony Event!

On Thursday, April 8th, I went to my very first Sony Event, and a VIP one at it too. It wasn’t quite what I expected but it was enough to keep me interested. I also got to check out and play (first time I held a PS3 controller too) a Wipeout demo in 3D. Yes, 3D using the 3D glasses on a Bravia television.

The event went on for three hours, but I decided to leave just 45 minutes after the event began. It wasn’t because of boredom, but two reasons: the products they showed weren’t things I were interested in (phones, mp3 players, cameras) and the fact, since my friend and I were the only two (at that time) young adults, our brains were much faster to understand the technology the 30 to 60 year men couldn’t. So we didn’t need to be educated about what a specific product had or how it worked, we knew just from a glance, a look, a feel, and the use how it worked, it’s uniqueness and well, the overall qualities.

Before we left though, we got a gift (which I believe everyone did as well). The spring 2010 catalogue of the new products, the same ones showed in the event, a “Micro Vault” Sony lanyard, a free Blu-ray copy of the movie Vantage Point, sadly I can’t view it, and a Sony “Green Bag.” [I have pictures of them, but due to the horrible quality from a laptop webcam, I won’t show them until I can take better pictures.]

Hopefully next time they have an event again, and I get invited, it won’t be like CES, but more like a presentation. I prefer presentations than a flee market look ‘round.

P.S. The X10 beats the Ipod/Ipod Touch by a mile (in terms of specs). Hopefully, Sony can market the product better than Apple. Though, I hear it will cost only $150 on a three year plan with Rogers (only at the moment). Otherwise, the product costs well over 700 bucks. Price is certainly comparable with the Nokia N900 and Apple Ipod Touch.

Also, don’t forget to read about FIFA 2010 in 3D!

Completed It!

Sackboy

Well, well. I thought it was a glitch, so I deleted my first saved copy of LBP and started it again, but it wasn’t and finally completed all the levels in story mode. All that remains now is to Ace them by not dying on each level. So far, I have Aced the first and last part, and have the others to do.

In other news, I had a few more trailers to distribute, but none of the encoders were available, so I’ll just have to re-encode them with a free program and put them on MF or YouTube them…

PSPGo

New Gen PSP came out not too long ago and Sony Japan has started its venture to market the new PSP to its home audience with a walk-through video. The almost 7 minute video shows the audience what the PSPGo can do in comparison to the PSP-3000 model. Warning: 1280x720 Resolution.

Just in case you don’t know, the new PSP (it is not a replacement) has 16 GB of space, expandable to 32, maybe even more as time goes by; more ram than the previous, so now you can go to the internet and view your cache heavy booby images; there is no UMB drive, so now you can download games from the PSP Store and play making use of the 16 GB space; the screen is slightly bigger in height, smaller in width, but still maintaining the maximum 480x272 resolution; and more importantly it is lighter and smaller than the original, so now you can fit it in almost any of your pockets while you travel. It also has other insignificant bits like Bluetooth, and comes with in-system demo games. On the downside, you can’t remove or change the battery, so after the rechargeable battery expires you will need to replace the entire system, making it impossible for you to transfer your saved games, videos, and other media to another system… But, sooner or later, we might see a solution to this, so keep your eye out.

Sony Coupon!

Is this my lucky week or what? Just recently, Friday (technically, Thursday) I had won a gift voucher from Sony in an almost million prize give-away. And now, only two days later, I receive another coupon valued at $25 dollars.

But, there is a catch to this too. As always. As it states on the image below, it’s a $25 “off” coupon if I spend $100 or more. And of course, that’s before taxes. Sigh. On the plus side, the deadline until this expires is sometime in January, so that gives me some amount of time to wait for a new product or two or a price cut for me to spend $100 dollars worth of item(s). According to the fine print (which also applied for the gift voucher), only accessories or games are allowed. No hardware. That means, no PSP Go, no PS3, no Digital Camera, no MP3 player… The list is getting very limited. I might purchase a few games (or the 8/16/32 Gig MS Pro Duo), though I have already pre-ordered Tekken 6 and LittleBigPlanet, and in the end it has to accumulate to a minimum total of $100.

So, my views on this? I am very happy Sony is giving away free vouchers as I normally don’t get cool things like this often or at all. It makes me save money on products I don’t want to buy for so much, but on the downside, I have to spend money on things I don’t necessarily need. But, I hope, maybe in the near future Sony holds actual free give-aways like at events in Japan, than to get us to spend for it. (The coupon shown below is only a sample, hence the expired date).

Sony’s Give-away!

Yesterday, 29 of October, Sony was having a VIP Give-away special. It was only open to VIP members, those that subscribe to Sony email newsletters here in Canada. The chances of winning were very high since they had 716,000 prizes to give away. For me, and my prize, it was a 99.5% chance of winning. Here are the details:

And so, what happened? I won. What I won was a $25 dollar gift voucher. The catch was I had to use it there. And so, I purchased (you can’t buy stuff with the voucher but use it as a coupon for purchases) the extended battery since my original one died every five minutes after full charge… And so, I took it out of the hard-to-open box and charged it with my quick 10 minute wall charger. Best product I have ever bought (several years ago). It can full charge in 10 minutes where the adapter takes from 30 minutes to an hour. Second time I ever won something. Yay! Personally, I would have wanted the laptop since I sort of need it for school as I use AutoCAD quite often, but I’m happy with what I got. I hope Sony does these more often. Really makes me happy. Made me realise I shouldn’t avoid the newsletters.:D If another comes, I’ll be sure to let you know what I won, if I do.
